The Clinimetrix Story

What inspired the creation of Clinimetrix?

Clinimetrix was created by a medical practice, for medical practices. It was born from management at Castle Hill Medical Centre searching for a better way. Like many other practices in Australia, this practice originally relied on the clinical expertise of GPs to provide patients with quality care, as managed through the PMS.

The lack of access to information limited the GPs’ ability to offer patients informed and evidence-based care. On the financial side, the lack of reporting capabilities restricted data, visibility, and understanding. It made decision-making around resources and revenue management challenging.

Enter Clinimetrix. It was created as a tool to understand the key financial metrics of the business. The clinical component was driven by our lead GP Dr Ron Tomlins and our nursing team to access better reports and clinical outcomes.

Seven years later, Clinimetrix is a core part of our practice operations and now many other medical practices across Australia too. It drives practice evolution through clinical and financial outcomes in medical practices.

Taking Clinimetrix to the people

Recognising that the challenges of our clinics were not unique, our team embarked on a journey to create better reporting solutions for the health and medical industry. Continual growth has improved reporting to cover nearly every requirement a medical practice may need. It is benchmarked against our own operational requirements and those of our valued customers.

While Clinimetrix started out as a financial analysis tool – offering detailed billing profiles of multiple practices and practitioners – it is now a full suite of general practice reporting, including complex and simple pay management solutions, that replaces the need for multiple costly programs.

Clinimetrix was built in 2016 and launched to other practices in 2020. However, where Clinimetrix became a vital tool in the practices’ navigating COVID, the pandemic did impact market release. We continue to see a steady market increase since COVID conditions eased in 2022.

The initial build was never about finding revenue gaps or clinical opportunities. Clinimetrix’s purpose was “seek to understand” simply because the PMS reporting at the time was quite limited. It didn’t take long to realise that there were opportunities for growth and improvement within the practice, based on the data we were seeing. With the help of nursing, we increased CDM and HA billings by 80% in the first year and never looked back.

As GPs became more accustomed to seeing the data, their interest shifted.

They’ve embraced the data and now rely on its full range of clinical outputs. This has driven the outstanding results we see today for our patients. And it’s something we’re seeing in action in every practice we work with.”

Meet Dr Ron.

Dr Ron and Clinimetrix – building CMxClinical

While the financial component was created and refined by some of the greatest business management acumen, Clinimetrix’s clinical component has been actioned by our outstanding General Practitioner, Dr Ron Tomlins. He has played an integral role in building the critical and comprehensive health reporting in Clinimetrix. As a medical doctor he is engaged in research tracking co-morbidity of patients across our practices. This research, along with ongoing requests from other GPs, has driven the clinical tools in Clinimetrix to be extremely valuable and sophisticated by nature, yet simple to use.

The impact of Clinimetrix – the proof is in the numbers.

Since creation, Clinimetrix has delivered fantastic financial outcomes at Castle Hill Medical Centre with an 80% growth in revenue from health assessments and chronic patients over the first 12 months of use.

Patient repeatability and item code tracking across a large dataset now only takes a few minutes. This allows our teams to instantly identify patients who require ongoing care. This has improved clinical results substantially.

According to the 2022 Western Sydney Primary Health Network report, Castle Hill Medical Centre patients over the age of 65 had almost a 50% lower risk of mortality compared to the state Public Health Network average over a 12-month period.

The data also demonstrates that our patients experienced significantly less hospitalisation, ED presentation and have a lower chronic disease than state averages.

Clinimetrix transformed how we manage our practice. It provided us with real-time data, allowed us to streamline our data extraction, and delivered deep insights to our clinics’ operations. It eliminated time-consuming processes and offered faster – more detailed – and accurate reporting.

The latest innovations for Clinimetrix?

We have just launched Clinimetrix 2.0 which better equips medical practices to navigate industry challenges of our time. New Dashboards simplify reporting and make clinical and financial extracts amazingly fast.

In addition, our simple payments package has been upgraded to cater for complex practitioner payment processes, offering a low-cost solution for practices currently spending thousands a month on existing software programs – no matter how many GPs they have. We are also working with our local PHN. We have built a new reporting solution for UCS locations, something no other vendor could do.

Clinimetrix can now be purchased in modules or as a complete package. It is currently compatible with Best Practice and will be available for Medical Director and other platforms throughout 2023.

Practice evolution – data-driven

The vision for Clinimetrix is to for it to be the one and only reporting and analytics platform a practice needs for growth, management and clinical excellence.

It is our intention to continue to deliver analytics tools within the practice intelligence platform that go far deeper than just item code tracking.
